The municipality Cortina belongs to the Belluno
Province and counts about 6.150 inhabitants. It abounds in natural
beauty with landmarks like the Cinque Torri as well as
the fields and pastures of the natural park Dolomiti d'Ampezzo.
Therefore it is a very popular hiking paradise. An uncountable
number of tours which start from your hotel or holiday flat take you through the
Empire of the Dolomites; activities like Nordic Walking and mountain biking
complete the sports and leisure time offerings.
Cortina is also known as a glamorous
winter sports resort that offers its guests a winter vacation in a class of its
own. As a former host of the Winter Olympics it leaves absolutely nothing to be
desired.
Culture Vultures can visit the museum of modern art “Mario Rimoldi”,
the palaeontology museum “Rinaldo Zardini” or the ethnographical museum „Regole
d'Ampezzo“. Also well worth a visit are the open-air museum Lagazuoi, the
5
Torri at the Falzarego mountain pass, and the fortress Tre Sassi in Cortina
d'Ampezzo. Also a side trip to the church Santuario della B.V. della Difesa and
to the parish church SS. Filippo and Giacomo should not be missed.
